it all started when Dr. Kegel, CEO of Pepperl+Fuchs
Germany came to South Africa for the Pepperl+Fuchs Office inauguration in Johannesburg. During this visit, he became aware of the poaching problem in South Africa. Hearing about this, he left determined to get the company involved in the cause to save the rhinos. When Marc Van Pelt, Managing Director of Pepperl+Fuchs
in South Africa, communicated the story of a baby rhino found in the Kruger National Park to Dr. Kegel, the company got the opportunity to assist. The baby rhino's mother was poached near Lower Sabie, he was about 4 months old. He was a very shy calf as he witnessed his mother being killed with a rifle. This story came to the attention of one of the private shareholders of Pepperl+Fuchs
and the decision was made to adopt “Oz”, (8 months old & 255kg today) at the ‘CARE for WILD AFRICA
’ Rhino Sanctuary.
